One of the things about Exchange 2010 that many of my customers find very attractive (and I have to agree with them) is the idea of the multi-role or “all-in-one” DAG server. This means having all three of the core Exchange 2010 roles installed on all of the servers in the DAG – Mailbox, Hub Transport and Client Access. There are a lot of reasons why this is an attractive solution, but here are a few of the main ones:

In my post just the other day I provided a link to the new guide covering Exchange publishing via Forefront TMG or UAG. One poster followed up by asking, “How do I set things up when I have both TMG/UAG with a web farm and a hardware load balancer?” It’s a great question, as these days hardware load balancers are becoming commonplace, and trying to get both Forefront TMG/UAG and the load balancer to work together is important to get right. As it happens, I had written something about this up too, and was saving it for a rainy day, so it looks like today, it’s raining. I hope this helps answer the question.

  • Moving mailboxes, Exchange 2010 way

Exchange Server 2007 used the Move-Mailbox cmdlet to move mailboxes between mailbox stores. Move-Mailbox makes a RPC connection to both the source and target mailbox databases and then starts the move process. Exchange Server 2010 uses the Mailbox Replication Service (MRS), a service that runs on all Exchange 2010 Client Access Servers, for mailbox move operations. MRS handles all mailbox moves including offline and online moves.
